I have been working as a journalist from 1999-2019 in Pikiran Rakyat Newspaper, the largest and the most influential media in West Java Province. I have been covering social and political topics and international issues. I was the chief editor from 2009-2013.
I was hired by Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), to coach Myanmar local media (2021).
I am a magister of Integrated Microfinance of Padjadjaran and graduated from the International Relations Department of Social and Politics Faculty, at the same university and soon I joined the media. I got journalism training in many journalism training institutions in Indonesia and abroad such as BBC, Thomson Reuters Foundation, etc. I attended many international forums on media and journalism.
My current position is corporate secretary of Pikiran Rakyat and member of the board of editors. My main responsibility is to advise and assist the members of the board of directors with respect to their duties and responsibilities as directors and compliance with their obligations under the Indonesian company Law no 40/2007.
In 2007 I presided over a team that led Pikiran Rakyat to a digital transformation, which put a new media environment and shifted the company into a new business model. One of the team’s achievements is the transformation of PRFM 107.5 radio from music into a news channel. The subsidiary company now is the top news radio and the biggest citizen reporter network radio in Greater Bandung.
From 2014 until 2019, I am Deputy Secretary General of Indonesian Media Publisher, an organization with more than 800 Indonesian media companies. The organization was founded to maintain the media company’s compliance with the good standard of Indonesian media publishers.
I am also a member of the Honour Council of the Indonesian Journalist Organisation of West Java Chapter. My responsibility is to make sure all the journalist members comply with Press Law no 40/1999 and the Indonesian Journalist Code of Ethics.
For more than a decade, I have been a persistent campaigner of public intellectual which urge academics intellectual to take an active part in public discourse through popular media. I have been training hundreds of academic intellectuals, professionals, students, and politicians to write for the media in plain language.
As a journalist, I cover a wide range of issues, mainly in economics, and domestic and international affairs. I cover the diplomatic war and diplomacy issues in South East Asia, and the Middle East.
And now I join West Java Development Acceleration Team (TAP), an advisory body that reports to West Java Governor Muhammad Ridwan Kamil.
I also founded the Odesa Indonesia Foundation (Odesa.id), a non-government organization that focuses on poverty eradication efforts in Cimenyan sub-district of Bandung Regency. The organization runs programs in three main fields: economics, health, and children’s literacy.**
